The Prototype

Shadowed by BNSF's fleet of standard SD60Ms are the road's handful of "Triclops" SD60s. These unique engines were early-production SD60Ms that had been ordered by Burlington Northern and Union Pacific and built by EMD in the late 80s through the early 90s (later production engines would have two windows rather then the three found on these versions - BN purchased these, too, and they are still on BNSF's fleet). These locomotives had 3,800 HP and were powered by EMD's 16-710G3A prime mover. In 1995, Burlington Northern had merged with Santa Fe to create Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and the road's SD60M fleet soon became BNSF property. Shortly after, the engines began to be renumbered in the 9200-9255 series (the "Triclops" SD60Ms would be renumbered one more time in 2007 to the 8100-9155 series). Some of these engines also emerged in the road's H2 paint scheme. Most of the H2-painted SD60Ms were repainted in BNSF's current H3 livery by the time the fleet of "Triclops" engines were retired in April 2012 - with the exception being 5 engines that are still used by the railroad.

Norfolk Southern purchased 9 ex-BN/BNSF "Triclops" SD60Ms in late 2014 (they also purchased a handful of BNSF's SD75Ms and the fleet of Union Pacific SD9043MACs), and so they could keep their fleet at a good number before the Tier 4 regulations went into effect on January 1, 2015, which caused locomotive builders like GE and EMD to essentially re-design their current engines and prime movers to meet the strict environmental regulations (hence why NS purchased these units. Also to note, General Electric has already created a new Tier 4 GEVO; some first production BNSF units were spotted at their facility recently).

BNSF H2 SD60M for TS2015

I think a BNSF H2 livery for the already-existing Union Pacific SD60M Loco Add-on would be nice to have in game because the fleet of BNSF mainline power already existing (ES44DCs, SD70MACs and SD75Ms) could be expanded with different engines, and because these engines are certainly unique to BNSF's roster of H2/H3 painted engines. If created, the BNSF SD60M could be used in Workshop scenarios for Marias Pass, Stevens Pass, and Pacific Surfliner®, and could also make for some interesting AI trains in scenarios. BNSF also used/uses these engines in occasional switching duties and locals when they are not on the mainline, so players could run a short local across a part of one of the mentioned routes (and others), or they could switch some freight cars and assemble a train in one of the yards. One last reason why I proposed this engine for Steam Marketplace is because the UP SD60M Add-on has no currently-existing Matketplace liveries, which is a shame since the "Triclops" has worn a different variety of paint schemes over the years, and all of their other owners (including present-day BNSF and NS) have routes that the SD60M could run on already. I hope Dovetail Games will consider adding a BNSF H2 SD60M livery to the Marketplace sometime soon.
