The Durham Coast Line is the railway line that links Newcastle Upon Tyne with Middlesbrough, via principle stations including Heworth, Sunderland and Hartlepool.
A variery of services utilise this route, including Grand Central Class 43 HSTs and Class 180 Adelantes, Class 142s, Class 156s, EWS and GBRf Class 66 freight trains hauling a rake of HTAs. Interestingly this route is also used as a key diversionary route for the East Coast Mainline during engineering works for services between Northallerton and Newcastle.

Theres also opportunities for an expansion in future from Newcastle to Carlisle via the Tyne Valley Line.
