- London Waterloo Gained it name from the Road it stands on and was originally opened on 11th July 1848, stood where platforms 7 to 12 are now, it occupied around 10 acres of land and was laid out as a through station with 2 arrival and 2 departure platforms.
The station has a connecting station named London Waterloo East which connects to Charing Cross through London Bridge station.
- London Waterloo was also the last station from which the coffin bearing the body of Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was taken prior to his funeral in 30th January 1965.
London Waterloo was the first home of the iconic Eurostar services connecting to Paris before moving over to its new home at London St Pancras Intl.
The original station that was used by Eurostar services are being used for storing engineering trains until required by the engineers working close by, and when not being used for engineering stock they are playing host to various Charter Specials such as the recent London Basingstoke special using the Juniper (class 458) organised by UK railtours whch ran in May 2015 , it also plays host to a number of steam charter specials that start at the London Waterloo Platforms.
The route between Basingstoke and London Waterloo can be done in such a way that it can be "linked" by the steam workshop community in the same way as London to Brighton, and London Bedford have been linked, thereby adding that bit of the SWT network to it, this also giving you multiple destinations for Waterloo as well such as connection in to its neighbouring station named Waterloo East, which has local services going out to destinations such as stations to Charing Cross.
